Inbox settings: where received mail goes

Inbox settings: forward-only or an inbox, how long mail is kept, who may send to you, and which webhooks hear about it.

Product overview: Newsletter and email marketing features

View as Markdown

Open the Inbox and select the settings cog, or go to Settings → Receiving and select Inbound settings. The page saves each change as you make it; there is no Save button. Admins can change these inbox settings; other people see them read-only. The top of the page shows how many messages this month have counted towards your plan. Spam, automatic replies and mail from unverified senders never count.

Where received email goes

  • Forward only. Each message goes to your webhook and stays in the API for 72 hours, then it is deleted.
  • Keep as an inbox. Messages are kept for the period below, and can be read and answered in SendBeam. They still go to your webhook.

Keeping mail

  • Keep messages for: how long the inbox keeps mail, up to your plan's longest period. A shorter period also applies to mail already kept.
  • When the inbox is full: Delete the oldest mail to make room for new mail, or Hold new mail back. Holding deletes nothing, and senders' servers retry for up to five days.

The storage allowance is shared by all the workspaces in your account that keep an inbox. The page shows how much is used. When the inbox keeps mail, an admin can also Export all received mail as an mbox file.

Who may send

  • Anyone (the default): mail to your addresses is accepted from any sender.
  • Contacts and team only: verified contacts, team members and replies to your campaigns. Mail from anyone else is filtered.

Showing received mail

Mail opens as plain text, and a link shows where it leads before you follow it. Formatted view decides whether the formatted version is offered:

  • Offer it for verified senders (the default): in a sealed frame, with images off until you load them.
  • Plain text only: never show the formatted version of any message.

Replies and the delivery log

  • Capture replies to campaigns (on by default): replies arrive linked to the contact and the campaign.
  • Replies to unpaired sending domains come back to: the receiving domain used for sending domains that have none of their own. Pair a sending domain with its own under Settings → Domains.
  • Quote the original in replies (on by default): your reply carries their message as text below yours. You can leave it out of any one reply.
  • Keep a delivery log (on by default): who sent what, and when, kept for 7 days after delivery. When it is off, the record is removed once a message is delivered.

Webhook endpoints

Choose which of your webhook endpoints hear about each message received. Without one, messages wait in the API for 72 hours. When you choose an endpoint, you are offered a button to send it the mail that was already waiting.
