Contacts, lists and tags on your phone

Contacts, lists and tags on your phone: find people, add one or many, scan a business card, import a spreadsheet or move from Mailchimp and others.

Product overview: SendBeam mobile app

View as Markdown

The Contacts tab holds everyone in the workspace, the same contacts as on the web (see Contacts). Add Contacts, on the tab and on Home, is the way in for new people, whether it's one person you just met or a whole list.

warning
Only add people who agreed to get your emails. Each way of adding asks you to confirm it, and people who unsubscribed before are never subscribed again by an import.

The Contacts tab

  • The tab shows how many contacts the workspace has. Search by name or email at the top.
  • Filter by status (Subscribed, Unsubscribed or Bounced) or by tag. Clear Filter shows everyone again.

A contact

Tap a contact to see:

  • Their email, name and status: Subscribed, Unsubscribed, Bounced, Complained, Pending or Archived.
  • Where they came from, when they were added and, if they left, when they unsubscribed.
  • Their tags. Add Tag adds one or more.
  • Their activity: emails sent to them, opens and clicks, automations they entered, forms they filled in and replies.

Edit changes their email, name and the text custom fields they already have. For anything else, such as their status, use Open in SendBeam.

Add one person

  1. Tap Add Contacts, then One person.
  2. Enter their email address. That's the only thing required; first and last name are optional.
  3. Choose any lists and tags. A list with double opt-in sends them a confirmation email first.
  4. Tick They agreed to receive email and tap Add.

Scan a business card

  1. Tap Add Contacts → Scan a business card, then Take a Photo or Choose from Photos.
  2. SendBeam reads the name, email, phone, company, job title and website from the card. Check them against the card: fields it couldn't read clearly are marked.
  3. Under How they agreed, choose Email them to confirm, and they're added only when they say yes; or They told me yes, if they said so to you, which is noted on their contact.
  4. Pick a list and tags if you like, then tap Send or Add.

The first time, your phone asks to let SendBeam use the camera. If you said no, turn it on in your phone's settings, or choose a photo instead.

Add lots at once

Under Add Contacts → Lots at once:

  • Paste addresses — one a line, or separated by commas. A name can go with the address, as in Grace Hopper <[email protected]>. The app counts the addresses it found before you import.
  • From your phone's contacts — pick people one by one with Pick a Person. SendBeam sees only the people you pick, and asks which address to use if someone has more than one.
  • CSV or Excel — choose a file with the columns email, first_name and last_name. For bigger or more varied files, use the web's CSV import, which maps any column.

Before you tap Import, choose a list and tags for everyone, and whether to Start automations for them; leave that off for people already welcomed elsewhere. Then tick They agreed to receive email.

The result says how many were added, updated or already there, how many had unsubscribed before (they stay unsubscribed) and how many addresses can't receive email. People on a double opt-in list join it once they confirm.

Move from another email tool

Add Contacts → From another email tool brings your contacts straight over from Mailchimp, MailerLite, Kit, Brevo or EmailOctopus.

  1. Choose the tool. The app says where to find your API key in it, for example in Mailchimp: Profile → Extras → API keys → Create a key.
  2. Paste the key and tap Connect. SendBeam uses it for this import only and doesn't keep it.
  3. Choose the lists to bring over, or none to bring everyone.
  4. Confirm they agreed to receive email and tap Import. You can watch the count go up.

People who unsubscribed in the old tool stay unsubscribed here. For more on moving, see how to move your list to SendBeam.

Lists

Open Lists from Your tools on Home. See Lists for how they work.

  • New list — give it a name, and turn on Ask people to confirm for double opt-in: new people get an email to confirm first.
  • Tap a list to see its people, when each joined and whether they were asked to confirm.
  • Archive List stops the list taking new people and hides it from choices. No one is removed from SendBeam, and you can bring it back on the web.

Tags

Open Tags from Your tools on Home to mark people by interest or source. Create Tag adds one; a tag's menu has Rename and Delete. Deleting a tag takes it off everyone who has it; the contacts themselves stay. See Tags.
